The City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is powered by employees who are passionate about making a positive impact on our communities. Every day, we serve a vibrant and diverse population—children, youth, adults, active older adults, and adaptive participants—through programs and services designed to help people connect, grow, and thrive. With busy recreation centers serving multi-generational and multicultural patrons, our team creates welcoming spaces full of energy and opportunity.
Recreation Supervisors are at the heart of that mission. They provide day-to-day leadership, support front-line staff, and ensure our centers deliver exceptional service. In this role, you’ll work both independently and collaboratively to manage facility operations, keep programs running smoothly, and champion the center’s role in the broader community.
Specifically, as a Recreation Supervisor you will:

- Build strong relationships with community groups and partners to identify needs, shape programming, and enhance services
- Lead, train, mentor, and evaluate recreation staff—helping your team grow and succeed
- Coordinate events, programs, and activities and collaborate across recreation teams to build innovative, integrated offerings
- Work with your center team to develop community engagement strategies and bring an equity lens to core programming
- Manage the center budget and allocate resources wisely
- Ensure a safe, positive environment for staff and patrons by implementing policies and guidelines
- Recommend process improvements that boost efficiency and enhance customer experience
- Proactively troubleshoot operational issues and establish standards for effective problem resolution
- Lead performance management, provide feedback, and support employee development
- Respond to employee concerns and manage documentation related to disciplinary action, when needed
What You’ll Bring
Our next Recreation Supervisor will be a team builder—someone who inspires, motivates, and supports a diverse group of recreation professionals and front-line staff. You’ll bring a strategic, solutions-oriented mindset and a genuine commitment to community. Cultural awareness, empathy, and the ability to engage residents from all walks of life will be essential to your success.
In joining the DPR team as a Recreation Supervisor, you’ll be at the forefront of realizing the “Game Plan for a Healthy City.” You’ll help ensure our centers adapt to the changing needs of Denver’s residents, connect people across generations and cultures, diversify our programs to reflect the rich fabric of our city, re-invest in our communities with an equity-focus, and grow our reach so everyone feels welcomed and energized.
Above all, we are looking for a genuine community-builder who leads with heart. We prioritize an authentic listener with a collaborative attitude, believing that a passion for uniting people is the true foundation for success in this role. While leadership and recreation-related experience is valued, we are most interested in candidates who are eager to engage with and uplift every member of our diverse communities.
